PCB's and Refrigerants
PCB stands for polychlorinated biphenyl and is a class molecules used as coolants and refrigerants, but also as dielectric fluids in transformers and capacitors. A common use of PCBs in building materials constructed prior to 1979 in the USA, was a constituent in caulk used around windows and to seal joint, and in glues for floor and ceiling tiles.
PCBs are known to cause cancer in animals. They are also known to cause a variety of non-cancer conditions in man affecting the immune system, the reproductive system, nervous system, endocrine system and other health effects.
